How to play

Two windows: the grill, and the fireworks wait.

The first sweet spot is the burger window. Hand out cards once everyone has a drink and a seat: kids are bored, adults are watching the grill, and a 15-minute round fits exactly. Use red and blue M&M’s, star stickers, or mini-flags as markers (they’re already on the snack table anyway).

The second window is the long stretch between sundown and the fireworks. Light the citronella, hand out fresh cards, and run a round in fading light. Glow sticks make a great prize for the fireworks-wait round; the winner gets first pick of the box. For the call, print page 2 of the Calling Cards PDF only — the Master Call Sheet handles a backyard breeze better than loose cards do.

Common questions

4th of July bingo, frequently asked.

Will the cards survive being passed around outside?

Plain US Letter is fine for a single round. For an all-afternoon cookout, print on 65lb cardstock or laminate beforehand.

Which design is best for kids?

Fireworks. Pale blue cardstock with three colored firework bursts and a “BOOM!” headline. Big icons that read for pre-readers.

Is there a more grown-up design?

Americana Classic and Vintage Parade. Americana Classic uses cream cardstock with red and navy stripes; Vintage Parade is kraft paper with bunting flags.

How do I keep kids interested through the fireworks wait?

Save a fresh round for the dusk window. Glow sticks make great prizes; the winner gets first pick.

Can I print this for a community group or church picnic?

Yes. No signup, no per-day cap, no licensing restrictions on community-group use. Print enough cards for your roster.

Who plays

A backyard-cookout staple.

Hosts run it before the burgers come off the grill. Parents hand cards to kids during the long wait for fireworks. Church and community groups use it at Independence Day potlucks. Each printed card is randomized, so no two guests share the same board, which keeps the game alive for more than one round.

4th of July bingo fits in the Independence Day cookout tradition — grilling, lawn games, the late-evening fireworks — as the table activity that fills the wait between dinner and dusk.
