No title? No problem
The bill of sale is your proof of ownership.
Most states don’t title or register golf carts — they’re treated as private-property or community vehicles — so unlike a car, there’s no title to sign over. That makes the bill of sale the primary record that ownership changed hands, which is exactly why buyers ask for one. Record the manufacturer’s serial number (EZ-GO, Club Car, and Yamaha each stamp it in a different spot), note whether it’s gas or electric, and keep a signed copy each.
If the cart has been converted to a street-legal low-speed vehicle (LSV), it may carry a title and VIN — in that case use the motor vehicle bill of sale instead.

What is a golf cart bill of sale?
A paper record of the transfer.
A golf cart bill of sale documents the date, price, and condition of the sale and identifies the cart by its manufacturer serial number. Both parties sign, and each keeps a copy as proof of ownership.
Not legal advice. A few states register golf carts or street-legal LSVs — confirm your local requirements before completing the transfer.
