Is a bill of sale really enough to prove I own a golf cart?
In most states, yes. Golf carts are typically not titled or registered, so there is no state paper trail — the signed bill of sale with the serial number is the proof of ownership, which is why experienced buyers insist on one.
Where is the serial number on a golf cart?
Each maker hides it somewhere different: EZ-GO commonly under the passenger-side glove box or dash, Club Car under the driver-side glove box or on the frame near the accelerator, Yamaha on the frame under the rear bumper or seat. Photograph the plate as one of your two photos and the record is airtight.
What if my cart is street-legal?
A cart converted to a low-speed vehicle (LSV) — lights, mirrors, seat belts, 17-character VIN — is titled and registered like a motor vehicle in most states. For an LSV, use our motor vehicle bill of sale so the VIN and odometer fields are there.
Does gas versus electric change the paperwork?
No — but it changes what a careful buyer writes down. For electric carts, note the battery pack's age and charger inclusion in the additional-terms box; batteries are the single most expensive wear item on the cart.
Do I need a bill of sale to sell a golf cart in Florida?
Florida doesn't title or register ordinary golf carts, so the signed bill of sale with the serial number is the ownership record — which is why Florida buyers, especially in golf-cart communities, expect one. The exception is a cart converted to a street-legal LSV, which carries a title and transfers like a motor vehicle.
