Cross Country Card Templates

Free printable cross country card templates for high school, USATF youth, club, and NCAA. The Position field carries the runner's 5K PR (or 8K / 10K for college). 2.5″ × 3.5″ trading-card size, 3.5″ × 5″ keepsake, 9-up team sheets — perfectly sized for a varsity-7 plus the alternates.

Cross country is a team sport that lives entirely on individual times. Every kid runs the same race; every kid's individual finish counts toward the team total. The cards capture both — the team is the 9-up sheet (the varsity 7 + 2 alternates), and the individual is the Normal-size card with the runner's 5K PR in the position field.

Use the cards for invitational weekends (every team prints a stack and trades them), conference / sectional / state-meet keepsakes (one Enlarged 3.5″ × 5″ for each varsity runner who advanced to states), the senior banquet, and the offseason scrapbook. Position field accepts "5K / 16:42", "8K / 26:18", "10K (College) / 31:04", or just "Varsity".

Multi-season strategy

Print three times a season, not once

Cross country runs from August to November. Most coaches print cards once at the end of the season; the smart ones print three times. A short season schedule:

  • Mid-August: parents-night Team sheet. 9-up roster of varsity + alternates, with each runner's projected season-opener PR or last year's PR in the position field. Hand to parents at the season's first home invitational.
  • Mid-October: invitational swap stack. Print 30+ Normal-size cards per varsity runner for the conference invitational weekend. XC traditionally has a swap culture — kids exchange cards with the rival schools they've been racing all season.
  • Early November: state-qualifier Enlarged. One Enlarged 3.5″ × 5″ per runner who qualified for states or for nationals. Frame, present at the team dinner the night before the meet. Some programs frame these on the team-room wall going back 20+ years.
  • Late November: senior banquet. One Enlarged per senior with their full XC career on the back side (re-feed the printed sheets). Frame, present at the season-closing banquet.
  • Course record print. Any time during the season — the day a runner breaks the home-course record or the conference record, print a keepsake card. Date + course in the team field, time in position. Hangs in the team room.

Frequently asked questions

What goes in the Position field for cross country?
PR plus race distance. "5K / 17:18", "5K / 18:42", "5K / 22:14". Boys' high school is mostly 5K; girls' is mostly 5K (sometimes 4K at the JV level). College is 8K (men) or 6K (women), with 10K appearing in regionals / nationals. Some athletes write "Varsity / 17:30" or "Top 7 / 18:12".
Why is the team sheet specifically a 9-up?
Cross country scores the team's top 5 finishers, with 6 and 7 as displacers, plus 1-2 alternates. That's a 9-runner core. The Team 9-up sheet sized at 9 cards per page maps cleanly to a varsity team's 7 scoring runners + 2 alternates.
Are these good for USATF youth / Junior Olympic XC?
Yes. USATF youth runs a 6-week fall season culminating in regional and national meets. Many youth teams print 9-ups for the start-of-season parents night and Enlarged keepsakes for kids who qualify for nationals. Position field handles age division ("15-16 Boys / 5K 17:42").
Can I print a card for a course-record run?
Yes — popular use case. The Foot Locker / Nike Cross Nationals / Eastbay course records, the home-course record, the conference record — print a card the night it falls. Date in the team field, time in the position field. Frame for the team room wall.

A scene from invitational weekends
Picture an October Saturday at a five-school cross country invitational. Coaches set up tents along the course, runners hand out cards before their race as a way to introduce the team, and parents trade them like old baseball-card swaps. The 2.5 × 3.5 size fits in any binder sleeve; the 9-up team sheet maps cleanly to a varsity-7 plus the alternates.
