Invoice Receipt Template
The other half of every invoice: a dated receipt that says who paid, how much, by what method, against which invoice — with the balance remaining computed so partial payments stay honest. Cash and check payments especially need one; the receipt is often the payer's only proof and your only defense against “I already paid that.”
Proof of payment, three ways.
Receipts are cheap; disputes aren't.
Every payment dispute is a contest of records, and the receipt is the record that wins it — dated, amounted, methoded, referenced. Thirty seconds at payment time buys immunity from the conversation that otherwise costs an afternoon and a relationship. Businesses that issue receipts reflexively almost never need them; that’s the point.
Match every receipt to its invoice when you file — a receipt series with gaps against open invoices is your accounts-receivable alarm working. The two templates are designed as a pair: the invoice asks, the receipt answers, and the file folder holds the whole conversation.
