What these are

Invoice templates: the bill, pre-built, with the math already done.

An invoice needs to say who is billing whom, for what, for how much, and by when — and then it needs to be arithmetically right. These templates handle both halves: the layout carries the fields an invoice is expected to have, and the spreadsheet versions compute every derived number from the ones you type, so line amounts, tax, deposits, and the total can never quietly disagree.

The general templates cover most billing. The trade versions exist because trades don’t bill generically: a repair shop separates parts from labor under a VIN, a contractor states a materials markup, a construction draw computes retainage, a daycare prints the tax ID parents file with. Picking the template shaped like your billing is most of what “professional invoicing” means.

We check every spreadsheet the hard way before it ships — sample data in, computed cells read back and compared against hand-worked totals, in Excel and again after Google Sheets conversion. If a template is on this page, its math has been run.

Frequently asked questions

Are these invoice templates really free?
Completely — every template on this page downloads directly with no account, no email address, and no watermark. The Excel and Word files are yours the moment they land in your downloads folder; the Google versions copy into your own Drive, private to you. We're a template library, not a software trial.
Which format should I pick?
Excel or Google Sheets when you want the math done for you — line totals, tax, and deposits all compute. Word or Google Docs when the invoice is a branded document you type into. The blank PDFs are for pen-and-clipboard billing at the job site. Every template here ships in all of them, so the choice is workflow, not features.
Do the spreadsheet versions really calculate everything?
Line amounts multiply from quantity and rate, the tax line computes from a percent cell you set, deposits and fees add or subtract themselves, and the total keeps itself — and we verify the computed cells of every template in Google Sheets after conversion, not just in Excel, before it ships.
What's the difference between the general and the trade invoices?
Structure. The general templates (simple, service, hourly, freelance) fit most billing; the trade versions add what their industry actually requires — the auto repair invoice carries a VIN block and separate parts and labor tables, the construction invoice runs progress-billing retainage math, the daycare invoice prints the tax ID parents need for the child-care credit. Pick the one shaped like your billing.
