How .potx works

Open. Edit. Present.

  1. Double-click the downloaded .potx. PowerPoint creates a new untitled deck from the design, leaving the template file clean for next time. Save your version as a regular .pptx.
  2. Each design ships pre-laid-out slides — eight for most, ten for pitch decks. Duplicate what you need, drop in your text, and delete the rest.
  3. Re-tint the whole deck from View → Slide Master: change the accent once and every slide follows. Prefer to edit in a browser? Every template is also on Google Slides.
Free for personal and commercial use — no attribution required.
PowerPoint questions

About the .potx files.

What is a .potx file, and how do I open it?
A .potx is the PowerPoint template format. Double-click it and PowerPoint opens a fresh, untitled presentation built from the design — the template itself stays untouched, so you can reuse it as many times as you like. Save your working copy as a normal .pptx.
Will these work in Microsoft 365, older PowerPoint, and Keynote?
Yes. The .potx format opens in PowerPoint 2010 and later, Microsoft 365 on Windows and Mac, and PowerPoint for the web. Apple Keynote also imports .potx, though a few font substitutions can happen there.
How do I apply one of these to a presentation I've already started?
Open your existing deck, then use Design → Browse for Themes and point it at the downloaded .potx. PowerPoint reapplies the colors, fonts, and layouts to your current slides. Some manual cleanup is normal when the slide counts differ.
Can I recolor an entire deck at once?
Yes — open View → Slide Master and change the accent color on the master slide. Every layout that inherits from it updates in one step, so you don't have to touch slides individually.
Do I have to pay, sign up, or credit anyone?
None of the above. Every .potx is free for personal and commercial use, with no account, no email, and no attribution required.
