Is the invoice generator really free — what's the catch?

Generator or template — which should I use?
The generator wins for a one-off invoice you need in the next two minutes. The templates win the moment invoicing repeats: an Excel or Google Sheets master keeps your business block filled in, holds your numbering, and becomes a running record of what you've billed. Most people start here and graduate to the simple invoice template next door.
How do the tax and deposit fields work?
Tax is a percent applied to the line-item subtotal, rounded to the cent — set it to your rate or leave it at zero. The deposit field subtracts money already paid, and the total relabels itself to Balance Due so the client sees full price, credit, and remainder. Both appear on the PDF only when they're nonzero.
Can I edit an invoice after downloading it?
The PDF itself is fixed — that's the point of sending a PDF. To revise, change the fields here and download again (the form keeps your entries while the page is open). For invoices you'll want to reopen and edit next month, use the Excel, Word, or Google versions of the templates — those are files you keep.
