New Zealand's tax year for individuals and most businesses runs 1 April through 31 March — the standard 31 March balance date used by Inland Revenue. This printable calendar lays out April 2026 through March 2027 on a single landscape page.
Note: the NZ Government's own reporting year runs July–June (used for the Budget and Crown accounts) — this April–March layout is the tax year that applies to individuals and businesses.

Frequently asked questions
When does the New Zealand financial year start and end?
For individuals and most businesses, New Zealand's tax year (income year) runs from 1 April to 31 March the following year — the standard 31 March balance date. So the 2026-27 year covers 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. This is the cycle Inland Revenue (IRD) uses for income tax.
I've heard NZ's fiscal year is July–June — which is right?
Both exist, for different purposes. The New Zealand Government's own financial (reporting) year runs 1 July – 30 June and is used for the Budget and Crown accounts. But the tax year for individuals and most businesses runs 1 April – 31 March. Most people searching for the 'NZ financial year' mean the April–March tax year, so this calendar defaults to that — just be aware of the government's separate July–June cycle.
What is the '31 March balance date'?
31 March is the standard balance date — the day a business closes its books for the tax year — used by the large majority of New Zealand companies and sole traders. Some businesses apply to IRD for a non-standard balance date, but 31 March is the default this calendar is built around.
Who uses the New Zealand financial year calendar?
Accountants and bookkeepers preparing IR3 / IR4 returns, business owners and sole traders closing off at 31 March, payroll teams, and finance staff coordinating an NZ entity with an overseas parent. Anyone reconciling the NZ tax year against a different home-country fiscal year finds the single-page view useful.
Are New Zealand public holidays marked?
The generator currently marks US federal holidays. New Zealand public holidays (New Year, Waitangi Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, King's Birthday, Matariki, Labour Day, Christmas, Boxing Day, plus regional anniversary days) are not auto-labeled. Write in the ones you need, or use the fillable Yearly Event Calendar PDF to type them per date.
Can I print it for a later year?
Yes — the underlying Academic Calendar generator lets you pick any start year. Set the start month to April and choose the year the tax year begins.
