Shift work calendar

See your rotating shift pattern for the whole month.

Pick a month and a shift pattern (4-on-4-off, 2-2-3 Panama, etc.). We'll fill in the ON/OFF labels for you. A second row is fillable for notes.

Tips for the best result

Color the shift type. Day shift one color, night shift another, off days white. Spotting your pattern across a month is faster than reading "ON/OFF" labels.

Plan sleep windows. Block out planned sleep on each shift day — useful for shift workers training their body around irregular schedules. Yellow highlighter for "I should be sleeping now."

Pre-mark family commitments. Doctor appointments, kids' activities, family events — write them in once a month; you can see at a glance which fall on shift days vs off days.

Trade days clearly. If you swap a shift with a coworker, mark the swap on both your calendars (yours + theirs). Avoids the "wait, who's covering Saturday?" Friday-afternoon panic.

Frequently asked questions

Which shift patterns does the generator support?
The most common rotating-shift schedules: 4-on-4-off (4 days work, 4 days off), Panama 2-2-3 (2 on, 2 off, 3 on; reverses each week), 24/48 (24-hour shift, 48 off — fire/EMS), and several others. Pick your team's pattern from the dropdown — the calendar fills ON/OFF for the month.
Who uses these schedules?
Hospital nurses (12-hour shifts), firefighters (24-hour shifts), factory operators (continuous-process plants run 24/7), oil and gas crews, dispatchers, prison/security staff, oil-rig workers. Anyone in a continuous-coverage industry where the schedule rotates rather than following a Mon-Fri week.
Can I customize the shift start date?
Yes — the calendar starts the rotation on whatever date you pick. Useful if your team's rotation starts on a non-standard day (e.g. shift change occurred mid-month) or if you're showing the next month's pattern continuing from this month's last shift.
Why use a printed shift calendar when my employer publishes one?
Two big reasons: (1) personal annotations — write in workout schedules, family commitments, vacation requests, sleep adjustments around the official shift pattern, all visible in one view; (2) family visibility — print one for the fridge so your spouse, kids, or roommates can see your schedule without checking the work portal.
What's the hardest part of working a rotating shift schedule?
The body never fully adapts. Sleep researchers consistently find that rotating-shift workers sleep ~1-2 hours less per 24-hour cycle than day workers, with cumulative effects on alertness and health. The printed calendar can't fix that, but it helps with what's controllable: planning meals, social events, doctor appointments, and sleep windows around the shift you actually have.
Can I print this for the whole year?
Print one sheet per month, 12 sheets per year. Bind into a shift-worker year planner. Some workers laminate the current month and dry-erase notes onto it — write in PT appointments, family events, planned vacation, then wipe and re-use next month.
