Running Summer Reading
- Set the dates (first week of June to mid-August is typical) and put them on every piece.
- Sign-up day: every child leaves with a log; adults and teens can take bingo, a log, or both.
- Put the patron links on your website and in the school-year-end newsletter so families print at home with your logo.
- Milestones: when a log comes back, initial it, give the prize, and send it home again — the log is the reason they come back.
- Finale: certificates for every finisher, the grand-prize drawing, and a photo for the newsletter.
Prize tiers
- Milestone (every 5 books / 100 minutes): sticker, bookmark, or a coupon from a local business.
- Finish: a free book to keep (Friends groups often fund this) and a certificate.
- Grand prize: one drawing per age group. Experiences beat objects — a bookmobile visit, a night at the library.
Tips from libraries that run it
- Pair with the state or CSLP/iREAD theme if you use one; our pieces are theme-neutral so they sit beside any artwork.
- Spanish-language logs on the same table as English, not in a separate stack.
- Being read to counts. Say it on the log; it is what makes pre-readers' families participate.
Every piece can be customized and saved with a link patrons print from. All kits · Want a piece we don’t have? Contact David.
