Tips for personalizing a Christmas gift certificate
Family photos make the cert. The Whimsical Cabin and Vintage Holly designs were drawn with a family photo in mind — a candid shot from last Christmas, the dog in front of the tree, the kids in matching pajamas. Drag-and-drop into the image window, then zoom + pan to crop in tight on faces. The fixed image window keeps the photo from drifting around as you scale.
The amount field is free-text. Type a dollar amount ($100), or a gift description (“A year of homemade dinners”, “Saturday morning donuts for a year”, “One puppy walk per week”). The cursive serif styles look sharp at one to three words.
Holiday cardstock makes it feel real. An 80-100 lb cover-weight cardstock (216-271 gsm) reads as a real gift, not a printout. Cream or natural-white cardstock matches the warm-paper backgrounds of Vintage Holly and Whimsical Cabin; bright-white suits Modern Editorial and Nordic Folk best.
Specialty paper? Hide the background. If you're printing on pre-tinted cream or kraft paper, switch off “Print the background color” in the side panel before saving. The decorative borders, illustrations, and text still print — only the paper-tone fill is removed so your paper's color shows through.
Best uses for each design
Modern Editorial
Polished pine-green and ivory. Corporate holiday gifts, design-forward teacher thank-yous, modern family exchanges.
Nordic Folk
Scandinavian pine motifs on warm cream. Hostess gifts, neighborhood cookie swaps, friend-group white-elephant prizes.
Vintage Holly
Hand-drawn holly + ribbon on warm cream. Family-letter inserts, grandparent gifts, traditional-aesthetic households.
Whimsical Cabin
Storybook cabin scene. Family-photo certificates for the kids, stocking stuffers, hand-drawn holiday card pairings.
Printing checklist
- Paper: 80-100 lb cover-weight cardstock (216-271 gsm). Cream / natural-white for Vintage Holly & Cabin; bright white for Modern Editorial & Nordic Folk.
- Margins: built in. The PDF has a 3/8 inch safe area on every side so home printers with a ~1/4 inch unprintable edge won't clip decorative borders.
- Color profile: “Color” or “Automatic” — needed so the holly reds, pine greens, and warm golds render correctly.
- Print quality: 300+ DPI / “Best” setting. Default “Normal” can soften the holly illustration linework.
- Specialty paper: switch off “Print the background color” in the side panel before saving if you're printing on pre-tinted cream or kraft.
- Two-up cut: the two-up variant places two half-page certificates on one sheet. Cut along the visible faint center line with a paper cutter or sharp craft knife.
