The collection splits by audience on purpose. The photoreal boards trade in candlelight and snow — a grand library in garlands, grandmother's ornament box on velvet, a market shot from the church tower — and they reward slow evenings at 67 or 100 pieces. The cartoon ten are the after-dinner family boards: Santa over the rooftops, elves at full production speed, a penguin party. The five little-kid boards open at 12 giant pieces: one snowman, one baby reindeer, one triumph apiece.

A December ritual worth stealing: one puzzle a night, littlest boards first, market-from-the-tower last. And these don't vanish in January — the cabin, the library and the reindeer play as winter boards clean through February.

Frequently asked questions

Which Christmas puzzles work for a 3- or 4-year-old?
The five in the little-kids row — My First Snowman, Baby Reindeer, Little Penguins, Gingerbread Friend, and Santa & Sleigh. They open at 12 oversized pieces with bold single subjects, so a preschooler can finish one solo and demand another. When 12 gets easy, the same boards re-cut to 24 from the piece chips — and the cartoon boards one shelf up are the natural next step around age six.
What's the hardest board in the collection?
Christmas Market at 100 pieces — an aerial crowd scene where every stall roof looks like every other stall roof; it's the one to save for the long dark week between Christmas and New Year's. The Library's shelves and the Town Square's windows are the runners-up. Among the cartoons, Toy Workshop is sneaky: the elves' shelves repeat colors the way the market repeats rooftops.
Do these puzzles disappear after Christmas?
No — the whole collection plays year-round, and about half of it is honestly just winter: the cabin, the alpine village, the reindeer under the aurora, and the tree farm carry no calendar date. Christmas-in-July solvers are quietly one of puzzling's larger constituencies, and we'd never leave them out. New boards join the collection each season, so it grows toward next December.
Are the photorealistic scenes real places?
No — they're rendered artwork of invented places: the town square is an idealized old-European anywhere, the castle belongs to no country, and the harbor is New England in spirit rather than on a chart. That's deliberate; a Christmas scene should feel like memory rather than geography. The reindeer, for what it's worth, are portrayed true to the real animal — they guest on the Animals wall for exactly that reason.
