Volleyball senior night lands on the last regular-season home match — mid-to-late October for most girls’ programs, spring for schools with boys’ volleyball. Seniors walk through a tunnel of teammates to center court with their parents, flowers in one arm, while the announcer reads their years on varsity. The framed card sits on the recognition table by the door, where everyone files past it on the way into the gym.
Gym light is the enemy of volleyball photos — most phone shots from the bleachers come out dim and blurred mid-rally. The photos that print well are the ones taken close and at a pause: the serve toss just before contact, the celebration huddle after a point, a setter’s ready position. If you have a mid-attack shot from a tournament photographer, that’s the one — otherwise shoot at practice, from the floor, with the net in frame.
The senior-night card stack — a great way to do it
There’s no single right way to do this — but here’s a combination a lot of families are happy with:
- One Enlarged 3.5″ × 5″ card per senior, framed in a 5×7 picture frame. Often the centerpiece — the card handed to the senior at midfield/midcourt during the pre-game ceremony.
- One Normal 4-up sheet per senior, cut into 4 cards — enough for the senior to keep one and share the rest with family. They last for years in a binder sleeve.
- One Team 9-up sheet, uncut, slipped into a 9-pocket page in the team binder — a record of the senior class for next year’s seniors to look back at.
Total cost per senior: ~$3 in card stock + $1-3 frame from the dollar store. Often the team-mom fronts it and parents chip in.
Volleyball senior night — a few things worth knowing
A few things worth knowing about volleyball senior night cards:
- The card table sits at the gym door. Volleyball ceremonies happen at center court, but the framed cards spend the evening on the recognition table at the entrance — with the flowers, the posters, and the guest book. Everyone who comes in walks past it.
- Put the stat line on the back. Kills, aces, and digs fit the back of the card — the card-back builder preloads volleyball columns (K, E, TA, PCT) so a four-year stat line prints in the same ink color as the front.
- Print one for the club coach too. Most varsity seniors roll straight into club season in November. An Enlarged card with the club team name in the team field is a better thank-you than anything from the trophy shop.
