Frequently asked questions

Which Hong Kong holidays does the monthly calendar mark?
All 17 general holidays the government gazettes for the year: the first day of January, Lunar New Year (three days), Good Friday and the day after, Easter Monday, Ching Ming, Labour Day, the Birthday of the Buddha, Tuen Ng, HKSAR Establishment Day, the day after Mid-Autumn, National Day, Chung Yeung, Christmas Day and the first weekday after Christmas — with the government's own substitute days when one falls on a Sunday.
Why is a holiday marked “obs.” on the day after the festival?
When a general holiday lands on a Sunday, which is already a holiday, the gazette makes the next day the holiday instead. In 2026, Ching Ming Festival falls on Sunday 5 April, so Monday 6 April is “the day following Ching Ming Festival” — marked “Ching Ming obs.” (observed) on the calendar. It marks exactly the days the government published.
What about a month next year?
The government publishes each year's general holidays around May of the year before; 2027's list is already out and loaded. For a year not yet published, the calendar marks the holidays fixed by date or Easter and says the lunar ones are still to come — it never guesses a lunar date.
Can I fill in the calendar on my phone or computer?
Yes. Every day box is a text field in any PDF viewer — Adobe Reader, Preview, Chrome or a phone app. Type your plans, then print on A4 or US Letter.
Is the Hong Kong monthly calendar free?
Yes — free for home, school or office use, with no signup and no watermark.
