Frequently asked questions
When does the Indian financial year start and end?
India's financial year (FY) runs from 1 April to 31 March the following year. So FY2026-27 covers 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. This applies to income tax, GST, corporate accounts, and government budgeting across the country.
What's the difference between Financial Year (FY) and Assessment Year (AY)?
The Financial Year is when you earn the income; the Assessment Year is the following 12 months in which that income is assessed and taxed. Income earned in FY2026-27 (Apr 2026 – Mar 2027) is assessed in AY2027-28. Both run April to March.
What is the new 'Tax Year' under the Income-tax Act, 2025?
From 1 April 2026, India's Income-tax Act, 2025 introduces a single 'Tax Year' concept that replaces the separate Financial Year / Assessment Year terminology for income-tax purposes. It still runs April to March — the 12-month window is unchanged, only the label is simplified. This calendar's April-start layout works the same either way.
Who uses the India financial year calendar?
Chartered accountants and tax practitioners, business owners filing GST and income tax, HR and payroll teams running the salary/TDS cycle, finance departments closing books at 31 March, and multinationals coordinating their India entity with the local FY. Students and educators tracking the academic/exam calendar find the April–March view handy too.
Are Indian public holidays and festivals marked?
India's three fixed national holidays — Republic Day (26 Jan), Independence Day (15 Aug) and Gandhi Jayanti (2 Oct) — are auto-marked on this calendar. The many festival holidays that move each year (Diwali, Holi, Eid, etc.) follow lunar calendars and vary annually, so they aren't auto-labeled — write the ones you need on the printed calendar, or use the fillable Indian Monthly / Yearly Event Calendar PDFs to type them per date.
Can I print it for FY2027-28 or a later year?
Yes — the underlying Academic Calendar generator lets you pick any start year. Set the start month to April and choose the year the financial year begins.
