NIW Reference Letter

How to write an NIW reference letter.
Adjudicators read these letters against a three-part test. A letter that names each part, with evidence, is the one that works:
- The writer’s own standing, first. Title, institution, years in the field, why you’re qualified to judge. An independent letter also states that you have no relationship with the petitioner.
- Substantial merit and national importance. The specific contribution — a finding, method, product — published where, cited or adopted how, and why it matters beyond one employer: a population, an industry, a national priority.
- Well positioned to advance it. Publications, funding, invitations, adoption of their methods, and a concrete plan for continuing the work in the U.S.
- The waiver itself. One sentence: why it benefits the United States to waive the labor certification for this person.
