Why the hash marks are a setting

A blank basketball court is a blank basketball court. A blank football field has to pick a side, because the hash marks sit in a different place at every level — a third of the way in for high school, 60 feet in for college, all the way in to goal-post width for the NFL — and the hashes are where the ball gets spotted, where the formation centres, where a band’s drill is charted from.

So the blanks ship with the high-school hash, and the builder makes it a switch. Change it and the yard numbers move too — 9 yards off the sideline for college and high school, 12 for the NFL — because a diagram that’s half right is the kind that gets a play spotted three yards from where you drew it.

Which diagram should I use to draw plays?
The half field. It shows goal line to the 50 at twice the scale of the full-field sheets, with the end zone at the top so your offense drives up the page — the way every playbook is drawn. Use the full field when the whole 120 yards matters: kickoffs, punt coverage, or a marching-band drill chart.
Can I add my team's logo and my players' names?
Yes. Build Custom takes a PNG, JPG or SVG logo, places it top-right or bottom-left and lets you size it, and adds a team name and subtitle across the top. Turn on positions and you get a base I-formation as O's and a 4-3 defense as X's; type a player's name next to any position and it prints in place of the abbreviation.
Which hash marks are on the blank diagram, and can I change them?
The downloadable blanks use high-school (NFHS) hash marks — 53 ft 4 in apart, dividing the field into thirds — because that's the field most coaches and band directors work on. Build Custom has a switch for college (40 ft apart) or NFL (18 ft 6 in apart) hashes, and it moves the yard numbers to match, so the sheet is right for whichever field you're actually on.
Does this work as a marching band drill chart?
The full-field landscape sheet is drawn to scale with every yard line, one-yard mark and both hash rows, which is what a drill chart needs. Check which hash your show is written to: most high-school shows use the high-school hash, but a lot of drill-writing software defaults to the college hash — if yours does, switch to college in Build Custom before you print.
Is there a football field diagram with positions labeled?
Build Custom does that. Offense prints as O's — LT, LG, C, RG, RT, TE, QB, FB, HB, X and Z in an I-formation — and defense as X's in a 4-3: two ends, two tackles, Will, Mike and Sam, two corners and both safeties. Untick anyone you don't need, or rename them, then download the PDF.
Is the diagram to scale?
Yes. Every line is placed from the regulation numbers — 100 yd between the goal lines, 10-yd end zones, 53⅓ yd wide, yard lines every 5 yd, the hash marks at the exact distance for the level you pick. The yard numbers are the regulation 6 ft tall and each row reads upright from its own sideline, exactly as a real field is painted.
