7v7 Pitch (U9–U10)

Why the youth pitches are separate sheets

A 7v7 field isn’t a shrunken full pitch — its penalty area is a different proportion of the field, the circle is smaller relative to the width, and there are two build-out lines that don’t exist anywhere else. Draw a 2-3-1 on a full-size blank and the “1” ends up somewhere near the centre circle. So the U9–U10 and U11–U12 fields get their own blanks, drawn from the US Youth Soccer numbers, and their own formations in the builder.

The numbering follows the convention most coaching courses teach — 1 through 11 by role on a full side — because that’s the language of “play the 6 into the 8” that players hear from U12 onward. Names print under the numbers, so the sheet works as both a tactics board and a lineup card.

Is there a soccer field diagram with positions and numbers?
Build Custom does it. Pick a formation and it draws each player as a numbered circle in the half your team defends — the traditional 1 to 11 for a full side (1 keeper, 2 and 3 full-backs, 4 and 5 centre-backs, 6 and 8 in midfield, 7 and 11 wide, 9 and 10 up front), with the role written under each. Type a name and it replaces the role. For 9v9 and 7v7 the numbers follow the same convention with the missing roles left out.
Which formations can I draw?
Full-size: 4-3-3, 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1. 9v9: 3-2-3, 2-3-3 and 3-3-2 — the three shapes US Youth Soccer coaching courses teach for U11–U12. 7v7: 2-3-1, 3-2-1 and 2-1-2-1. Each is drawn at sensible spacing in the team's own half; untick any player you don't need, and the blank sheets are there when you'd rather draw the shape yourself.
Which sheet should a U10 or U12 coach use?
The one for your format, not the full pitch. A 7v7 field for U9–U10 is 60 × 40 yards with build-out lines; a 9v9 field for U11–U12 is 75 × 50 with smaller boxes and goals. Drawing your kids on a full-size pitch puts them in the wrong places relative to the boxes, so both youth fields have their own blank and their own builder.
Can I add my club's crest and my players' names?
Yes. Build Custom takes a PNG, JPG or SVG crest, places it top-right or bottom-left of the page and lets you size it. Add a team name and a subtitle — opponent and date — across the top, type each player's name under their number, and the finished PDF prints on plain letter paper.
What is the half-pitch diagram for?
Anything that happens around one goal: corner routines, free-kick walls, the back four's shape against a cross, goal-kick build-out. It shows one half at twice the scale with the goal at the top, and Build Custom places the team defending that goal on it — which is the view you need when you're organising the box.
Is the diagram to scale?
Yes. The full pitch is the 105 × 68 m FIFA standard with every marking placed from the Laws of the Game — 18-yard box, 6-yard box, penalty mark at 12 yards, 10-yard arc and circle, 1-yard corner arcs, 8-yard goals. The 9v9 and 7v7 pitches use the US Youth Soccer numbers for their smaller boxes, circles and goals.
