Frequently asked questions

Which holidays are marked?
All of New Zealand's national public holidays — New Year's Day and the Day after, Waitangi Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, ANZAC Day, King's Birthday, Matariki, Labour Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. When a holiday falls on a weekend the calendar also marks the “Mondayised” observed day. Pick your region from the dropdown and that region's Anniversary Day is added too.
What is Matariki and why does its date move?
Matariki is the Māori New Year, marked by the rising of the Matariki (Pleiades) star cluster. It became a New Zealand public holiday in 2022 and is always a Friday, but the exact date follows the maramataka — the Māori lunar calendar — so it shifts each year. We use the official legislated dates (set through 2052), so the day is always correct rather than estimated.
How do the regional Anniversary Days work?
Each part of New Zealand has its own Anniversary Day — Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, Otago, Southland, Taranaki, Hawke's Bay, Nelson, Marlborough, Westland, South Canterbury and the Chatham Islands. Choose your region from the “Public holidays” dropdown and its Anniversary Day is added on the correct observed date; leave it on “National holidays only” to show just the nationwide holidays.
Can I type events straight into the PDF?
Yes. Open it in Adobe Reader, Preview, Chrome, Firefox or any mobile PDF viewer, click a date and the box becomes a text field. Type your event, then save — no paid software needed.
What paper size does it use?
It prints cleanly on both A4 and US Letter, so any printer in New Zealand works. Choose portrait or landscape before generating.
Is it free?
Yes — free for personal, family, school or office use, no signup, no watermark. Print as many as you like.
