If the party is far off or many guests will travel, send We're Engaged as a save the date first, as its back says, Formal invitation to follow, then send the full invitation four to six weeks out. Use the same design for both so the second card is recognized at a glance.

The back repeats the frame and sets the details in small capitals, with one line for the hosts, the dress code or what will be served. A smooth 110 lb ivory or cream card stock shows the fine lines best.

Can I use a calligraphy design as a save the date?

Yes. We're Engaged is laid out as one, labeled Save the Date for the Party with Formal invitation to follow on the back. Change the label to send it as the invitation itself.

Will the script be readable?

The script is used for the headline and names, set large; the details and RSVP are in a clear serif in small capitals.
