Honey-Do List Template

The list of things around the house that need doing, made fair: every job gets a Now, Soon, or Someday tag so the dripping tap and the garage shelf are not fighting for the same Saturday, a room column, a materials column so the hardware-store trip happens once, and a supply-run box to copy those materials into. The Excel and Google Sheets versions count jobs by urgency and jobs done; the PDF goes on the fridge.

Worth knowing

Write the job, not the grievance.

The honey-do list works when it reads like a work order and fails when it reads like a complaint. Fix the gate latch is a job; the gate is still broken is a conversation. Room and materials columns help here — they force the job to be specific enough to actually start.

Cross Someday jobs off after six months if nobody has touched them. Either they were never real or they need to become a project with a budget, and the list is lighter either way.

Frequently asked questions

What is a honey-do list?
The running list of household repairs and projects one partner keeps for the other — hang the shelf, fix the gate, call about the gutters. The name is old and affectionate; the problem it solves is real: without a list, the jobs live in one person's head and the conversation about them never ends well. On paper, with tags, it is just a plan for the weekend.
Why Now, Soon, Someday instead of High, Medium, Low?
Because house jobs are about timing, not importance. The tap is Now because it is dripping; the shelf is Someday because nothing breaks if it waits. Three time buckets make the Saturday list obvious — everything tagged Now — and keep Someday from guilt-tripping anyone.
How do I use the materials and supply-run columns?
Write what each job needs in its row as you think of it. Before the hardware store, copy the materials from the Now jobs into the supply-run box and take the page with you. One trip instead of three is the single biggest time saver on this sheet.
Can it double as a home maintenance schedule?
For the one-off jobs, yes. For recurring maintenance — filters, gutters, smoke alarms — the household task list with its Daily / Weekly / Monthly column is the better fit, and the two lists sit happily side by side on the fridge.
