Household Task List Template

The family's chores on one sheet, with the two columns that stop arguments: Who, from a dropdown of the household's names, and How often \u2014 daily, weekly, or monthly. Type the names once in the family row and they feed both the dropdown and the who-did-what tally at the bottom, so the sheet answers the question before it is asked. Excel and Google Sheets count; the PDF and Word versions go on the fridge.

Worth knowing

Rhythm is the column that makes it fair.

Most chore disputes are not about who does more but about who does the invisible things — the monthly filter, the weekly bins. Writing How often next to every task makes the monthly jobs count, and the tally then compares real load rather than the loud daily stuff.

Review the tally on Sunday and rotate one chore. Small, regular rebalancing beats the annual argument.

Frequently asked questions

Household task list or chore chart?
A chore chart is a grid of names against days, good for a fixed weekly rotation. This is a list: one row per chore with a name and a rhythm, which handles the monthly and one-off jobs a chart cannot, and the tally shows the split at a glance. Many families run both — the chart for daily kid chores, this list for everything else.
How does the who-did-what tally work?
It counts, for each name in the family row, how many chores carry that name and how many of those are ticked. Names are matched exactly, so keep the family row as the only place names are typed; the dropdown takes care of the rest.
Can I use it for roommates or a shared house?
Yes — it is the same problem. Put the housemates in the family row, tag the shared chores, and pin the tally where everyone sees it. The Google Sheets copy is the usual choice for a shared house because everyone can tick their own rows from a phone.
Is there a kids' version?
The kids' to-do list is the one-child, one-day sheet with big boxes and a reward line. Use this household list for the family view and give each child their own kids' page for the day.
