3 Baby and Infant Funeral Program Templates

No one should have to make this program, and if you are here we are sorry. These three templates are meant to ask as little of you as possible. The wording is gentle and short, the order of service is brief, and nothing on the page needs to be there: delete whatever does not fit your family.

Inside the Little Star program

Inside of a baby funeral program: an eight-line service with a song, a reading from Matthew 19, a letter from Mom and Dad and the lighting of a candle, beside a short piece titled Our Oliver and a verse, each ending in a row of pastel stars

A service of love and remembrance

A short service

What an infant funeral program usually includes

A service for a baby is often fifteen or twenty minutes. The program can be as simple as a name, a date or dates, and a few lines:

  • A welcome and a prayer or a moment of quiet
  • A lullaby or a simple song
  • A short reading
  • Words from the parents, read by them or by someone on their behalf
  • The lighting of a candle, or another small act of remembrance
  • A blessing

There may be only one date, or none. The dates line can be deleted, or replaced with a few words: Born sleeping, or Held and loved for seven days.

No photo, no problem

When you do not have a photograph

Many families do not. The photo frame can hold a print of tiny footprints or handprints from the hospital, an ultrasound image, a drawing by a brother or sister, or the baby’s name set large. To remove it altogether, click the frame and delete it; the rest of the cover closes up around the gap.

Questions families ask

What do you write in a funeral program for a baby?
As much or as little as you can manage. The name, the date, who loves them, and one thing you want remembered are enough. The sample wording on the Little Star template is a starting point; change every word of it if you wish.
Is there a design that is not blue or pink?
Little Star uses gold, soft blue and a little pink together. Butterfly is lavender, and Heavenly Sky is pale blue and white. The Word and Google Docs versions let you change the colour of any text.
Can these be used for an older child?
Yes. Butterfly and Heavenly Sky suit a child of any age. Replace the short service with a fuller order and add a life story in the right-hand panel.
