Ping Pong Table Dimensions and Size

A regulation ping pong table is 9 feet by 5 feet — 108 × 60 inches, 2.74 × 1.525 metres — 30 inches high with a 6-inch net, and that is the only official size there is. Why the room matters more than the table

A ping pong table is small — smaller than a pool table — but the game is played off it. Two competent players stand three to six feet behind their end lines and move sideways, so a 9 × 5 ft table in a 12 × 8 ft room is a table you can only play badly on. Give the ends everything you can: five feet each is the floor, six and a half is comfortable, and the ITTF puts eight metres of total length behind a tournament table for a reason. Side clearance is for doubles and for chasing wide balls; three feet does.

The centre line is the one marking people misread. It only matters in doubles, where the serve has to travel from the server’s right half to the receiver’s right half; in singles it is decoration. The net is the marking that actually gets set wrong: it should be 6 inches high all the way across and its posts sit 6 inches outside the table, so the ball can legally pass around the net and still land in.

What are the dimensions of a ping pong table?
Nine feet long by five feet wide — 108 × 60 inches, or 2.74 × 1.525 metres — with the surface 30 inches (76 cm) off the floor. That is the ITTF regulation size and the only official one; every 'full size', 'tournament size' or 'official size' table you buy is built to it. The net is 6 inches high and 6 feet long, sticking 6 inches out past each side.
How much room do you need for a ping pong table?
At least 19 × 11 feet: the 9 × 5 ft table plus 5 feet behind each end and 3 feet at each side. Players back away from the table to return spin, so end room matters far more than side room. A 22 × 14 ft space is comfortable for two decent players; ITTF tournaments use a 46 × 23 ft court. A midsize 6 × 3 ft table gets the minimum down to about 16 × 9 ft.
How high is a ping pong net?
Six inches — 15.25 cm — measured at the top of the net across its whole length, with the bottom as close to the table as possible. The net assembly extends 6 inches beyond each side line, so it is 6 feet long; most clip-on nets have a height gauge built into the post for setting it.
How tall is a ping pong table?
Thirty inches (76 cm) from the floor to the top of the playing surface. Folding tables reach that with adjustable feet; the surface must also be level, and the ITTF wants a 40 mm ball dropped from 30 cm to bounce about 23 cm, which is really a specification for the top's material.
What size is a ping pong ball, and a paddle?
The ball is 40 mm across (1.57 in) and weighs 2.7 g — the 'poly' ball that replaced the 38 mm celluloid ball. There is no official paddle size: the ITTF only requires a flat, rigid blade at least 85 per cent natural wood, with rubber no thicker than 2 mm of sponge and 4 mm in total per side. A typical shakehand paddle is 6 × 6¼ in with a 4-in handle, which is what the printable template draws.
What are midsize, three-quarter and mini ping pong tables?
Manufacturers' sizes, not standards. Midsize is usually 6 × 3 ft (72 × 36 in) and is the common apartment and kids' table; three-quarter tables run about 6 ft 9 in × 3 ft 9 in but vary by brand; mini and tabletop sets are around 4 × 2 ft and sit on a dining table. All of them keep the 6-in net height. Only the full 9 × 5 ft table is legal for competition.
How big is a ping pong table when folded?
Roughly 60 inches wide, 25 to 30 inches deep and 60 to 65 inches tall on its wheels for a typical two-piece folding table — it fits through a standard door but check the model's spec, because rollaway frames differ. With one half folded up as a backboard the table still needs its full 9 ft of length.
What is the difference between an indoor and an outdoor ping pong table?
The top. Indoor tables use a wood or wood-composite top 15 to 25 mm thick, which gives the truest bounce; outdoor tables use aluminium-composite or melamine tops, usually 4 to 6 mm, that shrug off rain and sun but bounce a little lower and faster. Both are the same 9 × 5 ft, and an outdoor table is fine indoors — the reverse is not.
Will a ping pong top fit on my pool table?
Conversion tops are made for 7- and 8-ft pool tables and are the full 9 × 5 ft, so they overhang the pool table on every side and need the same 19 × 11 ft room as a real table. What are ping pong table dimensions in cm?
274 × 152.5 cm, 76 cm high, with a 15.25 cm net that is 183 cm long. Lines are 2 cm wide, the centre line 3 mm, and the ball 4 cm across. A midsize table is about 183 × 91 cm.
