Two Weeks’ Notice Letter Templates
Two weeks is the handshake of resignations — enough time for a real handoff, short enough that everyone can see the end of it. These four templates carry the letter that goes with it: 'my two weeks' notice' in the first sentence, the actual date counted out, one line of thanks, and a handoff plan for the fourteen days. Download, fill in the brackets, and give notice the ordinary, honorable way.
The fourteen-day letter, ready to date.
Classic navy, contemporary teal, a bare minimalist page, and a slate banner — the letter inside each is the same two-weeks notice with the count built into the wording.
A sample two weeks’ notice letter.
Dear [Manager Name],
Please accept this letter as my two weeks’ notice of resignation from my position as [Job Title] at [Company Name]. My last day of employment will be [Last Day — two weeks from today’s date].
I am glad for the time I have spent here, and grateful for what you and the team have taught me — [one specific, if you’d like: a project, a skill, a mentor].
Over the next two weeks I will focus on leaving things in good order: wrapping up my open work, documenting what I own, and handing off anything still in flight. Tell me what would help most and I will make it a priority.
Thank you for everything during my time at [Company Name]. I wish you and the team the very best.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
The simple, employee-standard version — this exact letter is inside all four templates above, and it reads the same whether you print it or paste it into an email.
Getting the date right.
The only part of a two-weeks letter people get wrong is the arithmetic. The custom is simple once it’s stated plainly:
- The clock starts when you deliver — the conversation plus the letter, same day. Not when you decided, not when you drafted.
- Calendar days, not business days — two weeks means fourteen days on the calendar, with your last day the final workday inside them.
- Name the date — the letter says “[Friday, Month Day]”, never “two weeks from now.” Ambiguity in a notice document helps no one.
- Mind the payroll boundary — ending on a pay-period boundary makes everyone’s accounting cleaner; a day or two of flex to land there is usually welcome.
And spend the fourteen days like they’re being watched, because they are: the handoff you do in your last two weeks is the story your former colleagues tell about you for years.
Notice to last day.
- Pick a design and fill the brackets — write the actual last-day date, counted from delivery.
- Tell your manager in person, hand over the letter, and agree on the handoff plan that day.
- Write things down as you go — the documentation you leave is the notice period’s real product.
- Exit clean: equipment returned, files handed over, and a thank-you on the way out.
