Either works. Couples bunco needs 6 couples (12 players); you can rotate as couples or break partners up for the night (more interesting socially). Ladies-night is the classic bunco vibe — the kit looks great either way.
Should single friends feel awkward at couples bunco?
Not if you set the tone in the invite. "Bring your partner, a friend, fly solo, doesn't matter — we just need 12." The night's only awkward if you make it awkward. Most singles are happy to BUNCO their way past the cliché.
