New Year's Day Lucky Supper Invitations

New Year's Day supper invitations for the Southern good-luck meal: Skillet Cornbread with a cast iron skillet on a black-eyed pea pattern, and Peas & Greens with a bowl of peas and a gingham band under A Lucky Supper. The samples are a farmhouse supper at 5 and Grandma's table at six, both on January 1. Type the family, the time and the menu, and print or text the card.

Hosting tip
Soak dried black-eyed peas on New Year's Eve, or use frozen or canned ones, and the pot can simmer all afternoon. Some families drop a clean coin in the pot, and whoever finds it in their bowl gets the year's extra luck.
How it works

Details, wording, colors, download

Open any design above in the maker. Type the family, the church or your names as hosts, the day and the hours; an open house puts its time range on the RSVP line. The back carries one practical line: what to bring, whether kids are welcome, parking, or the time a Noon Year's Eve countdown starts.

Pick one of the three palettes drawn for the design, then download a 5 x 7 PDF (front and back), a two-per-sheet letter PDF for home printing, print-shop PNGs with bleed, 4 x 6 PNGs for a photo counter, a phone-sized PNG or a Word file. For more lines to put on the card, see the New Year’s invitation wording ideas.

Frequently asked questions

What is a lucky supper on New Year's Day?
A Southern tradition of eating foods said to bring luck in the new year: black-eyed peas for luck, collards or other greens for money, and cornbread for gold. The Skillet Cornbread sample sums it up on the back: "Peas for luck, greens for wealth".
Can guests bring a dish?
Yes; add it to the note. The Peas & Greens sample keeps it light ("Bring your appetite & your luck"), but "Bring a side to share" works if you'd like help with the greens.
