Lacrosse Field Dimensions

Lacrosse is unusual: the men's and women's games are played on genuinely different fields, and since 2026 USA Lacrosse also publishes a unified field that carries both sets of lines. One measured sheet for each — men's, women's, unified and the small-sided youth field — read straight from the governing body's own diagrams.

Why the goals sit inside the field

The first thing that surprises people lining a lacrosse field is that the goal is not on the end line. It sits 15 yards in — 10 to 20 in the women’s game — leaving a strip of live field behind it, and the whole attack is built around that space: the men’s “X” attackman sets up behind the goal, and the women’s first home works the same ground. The restraining lines then carve each end into a zone where a set number of players from each side must stay.

That is also why the unified field is 120 yards rather than 110: the extra ten yards give both games the room behind the goal they expect while keeping one set of restraining lines, 40 yards from each end, that both rule books accept.

What are the dimensions of a lacrosse field?
A men's field is 110 yards long by 60 yards wide. The goals sit 15 yards in from each end line, 80 yards apart, inside a 9-ft-radius crease, and restraining lines cross the field 35 yards from each end to make the two 40-yd-wide defensive and goal areas. The same field is used by the NCAA, the NFHS and USA Lacrosse; the NFHS allows a 53⅓-yd width where the field shares a football gridiron.
How is the women's lacrosse field different from the men's?
Dramatically. The women's field is longer and wider — 110 to 140 yards by 60 to 70 — with 90 to 100 yards between the goal lines instead of 80. It has no box or wing lines; instead each goal carries a 3 m goal circle, an 8-metre arc and a 12-metre fan, the restraining lines sit 30 yards off each goal line, and the draw is taken in a 30-ft centre circle. Line one for the other and neither game can be played properly, which is why USA Lacrosse published a unified field.
What is the unified lacrosse field?
USA Lacrosse's 2026 shared field for high schools that host both boys' and girls' lacrosse on one surface. It is 120 yards long and 53⅓ to 60 wide, with the goal lines 15 yards in, restraining lines 40 yards from each end, the men's 9-ft crease, box and wing lines, and the women's 8 m arc and 12 m fan painted around the same goals. One set of lines, both rule books satisfied.
What are high school lacrosse field dimensions?
Boys play on the men's 110 × 60 yd field under NFHS rules, with a 53⅓-yd width permitted on a shared football field. Girls play on the women's field — 110–140 × 60–70 yd — under NFHS girls' rules, which follow the USA Lacrosse markings. Schools that field both increasingly line the unified 120 × 60 field instead.
How big is a youth or 7v7 lacrosse field?
USA Lacrosse's small-sided unified field is 60 to 70 yards long and 35 to 45 wide, with the goals 10 to 15 yards in and 40 yards between the goal lines, which run the full width. It carries the 9-ft crease and the girls' arc and fan so both games can use it. Two of them fit crosswise on a full field, one on each half.
Is a lacrosse field bigger than a football field?
Longer, not wider. A men's lacrosse field is 110 yards end line to end line against football's 120 including the end zones, but it is 60 yards wide to football's 53⅓ — which is why the NFHS lets schools shrink lacrosse to 53⅓ on a shared field. A women's field at up to 140 × 70 yards is larger than a football field in every direction.
How big is a box lacrosse floor?
Box lacrosse is played on a hockey rink with the ice out — 180 to 200 ft long and 80 to 90 ft wide, so 200 × 85 ft in an NHL-size arena. The goal is a 4 × 4 ft box (4 ft 9 in wide in the NLL) inside a crease of 9 ft to 9 ft 3 in radius. Indoor field lacrosse on turf is a different thing again and uses whatever the facility has.
How long is a lacrosse field in feet and metres?
The men's field is 330 ft long and 180 ft wide — 100.6 m by 54.9 m — with the goals 240 ft apart. A women's field drawn at 120 × 70 yards is 360 × 210 ft, or 109.7 × 64 m.
