What the daily expert sudoku asks of you
Expert is the line for solvers who have run out of Hard. Singles, locked candidates, pairs, X-Wing, XY-Wing and Swordfish all run dry somewhere in the grid, and the grader has confirmed that a chain is required: pick a two-candidate cell, follow one candidate forward, and discard it on contradiction. That is disciplined trial, not guessing, and it always terminates because every edition has exactly one solution.
Other publishers call this tier evil, diabolical, extreme or fiendish. The expert sudoku page maps those names to the tiers here and carries a 24-puzzle pack. One notch above Expert is the Sadistic line, which strips givens toward the minimum the engine can verify.
