6 To-Do Lists for Occasions and Methods
Two kinds of list that a plain page cannot be. The occasion lists come pre-filled \u2014 31 wedding tasks in five stretches, 30 moving tasks from eight weeks out, the Christmas gifts with bought and wrapped boxes, twenty things before school starts \u2014 because the point of a template for an event is not having to think of the tasks. The method lists change how you sort: two questions per task that compute an Eisenhower quadrant, and half-hour blocks that turn a list into a schedule.
Pick the occasion, or the method.
Pre-filled saves the thinking; methods change the sorting.
An occasion list earns its place by knowing the tasks before you do: the marriage licence has a lead time, the freezer has to be defrosted, the cards have to be mailed before the food is bought. Those lists are checklists we wrote so you would not have to, and the blank lines are for what is particular to yours.
A method list earns its place by changing the question. Urgent and important are two different things; a slot is a commitment a list item is not. Use them on the weeks that need them, and go back to the plain daily list when they do not.
