Consulting Cover Letter Templates & Example
Consulting firms read cover letters for the same things they test in a case: structure, a quantified result, and evidence you've done your homework on the firm. The letter inside these templates gives them a structured result with a dollar figure, the analytical toolkit, a recommendation an executive adopted, and firm-specific fit — including a named conversation with a current consultant if you have one. Formal navy, monogram glacier, or contemporary ocean.
Pick a letterhead; the letter inside is structured like a case.
Formal in navy for MBB and strategy firms, Monogram in glacier for Big Four advisory and boutique firms, Contemporary in ocean for tech and operations consulting.

What a consulting cover letter should say.
Consulting recruiters read hundreds of letters per cycle and screen for four signals — the same four the interview will test:
- A structured result with a number. ’Led a cross-functional cost effort that identified and delivered $4.2M in run-rate savings.’ Problem, approach, quantified outcome.
- The analytical toolkit. Financial modeling, market sizing, process mapping, stakeholder interviews — named, not implied.
- Adoption. A recommendation an executive or board accepted and acted on. Consulting is advice that gets taken.
- Firm fit, specifically. A case or insight you read, a practice area, a named conversation. ’Prestigious firm’ is not a reason; a published case is.
MBA or undergraduate recruiting? Case competitions, a leadership role with a measured outcome, and internship deliverables fill the result paragraph — the recent graduate letter covers the framing. Project and program managers use the PM letter. Pair with a consultant resume.
Fill it in.
- Open a template in Google Docs or download the Word file.
- Fill the [brackets]: one structured result with a number, the toolkit, an adopted recommendation, and firm-specific fit.
- Keep it to one page, export a PDF, and submit it with a resume in the same conservative design.
