What goes on a special education teacher resume.

SpEd directors read a resume for caseload competence first and everything else second. The layout above surfaces it:

  • Caseload and compliance, as numbers. ’Caseload of 18 · 100% IEPs on time · 3 settings’ — the line that gets the interview.
  • Settings and populations. Resource, inclusion/co-teaching, self-contained; disability categories you’ve served — named plainly.

Results: IEP goals met, compliance rates, behavior data trends.
How do I show IEP experience on a resume?
Quantify it: caseload size, IEPs written per year, on-time compliance percentage, and the meeting types you lead (annual, re-eval, transition). Add the systems you use (IEP software by name). Directors trust numbers over the word 'experienced.'
What skills belong on a special education resume?
IEP development and compliance, differentiated and specially designed instruction, accommodations/modifications, behavior intervention (FBA/BIP, PBIS, de-escalation), progress monitoring and data, assistive technology, co-teaching, and family communication. Use the district's posting language where it overlaps.
How is a resource teacher resume different from a self-contained one?
Same template, different emphasis: resource and inclusion resumes lead with co-teaching, pull-out scheduling, and general-ed collaboration; self-contained resumes lead with behavior systems, paraprofessional supervision, and functional/life-skills curriculum. Change the setting line and the first two bullets.
Can I write a special education resume with no experience?
Yes — lead with certification and student teaching in a SpEd setting, written with caseload and IEP specifics from your placement. Paraprofessional, ABA, or residential experience counts as real and should be written as such.
