Cards to match the program

24 Free Funeral Card Templates

Three kinds of card go with a funeral: the memorial card guests take home, the small prayer card kept in a wallet or Bible, and the thank-you card the family sends afterward. These templates print several to a US Letter sheet with cut lines, and each uses the same artwork and sample person as one of our funeral programs, so the whole set can match.

Memorial cards and prayer cards

Thank-you cards

Mailed in the weeks afterward to those who sent flowers, food or a gift. No photo: a short printed message with room for a line by hand.

Three cards, three jobs

Which funeral card do you need?

The quickest way to make any of them is the card maker above. To browse every design as a ready-made file, open the page for each kind of card:

  • Memorial cards — a photo, name, dates and a verse on a quarter-sheet card. Handed out at the service or mailed to those who could not come. Twelve designs.
  • Prayer cards — wallet-sized, with a photo on the front and a prayer, psalm or poem on the back. Six designs, including a Catholic card.
  • Thank-you cards — a flat card with a printed message from the family and room to add a handwritten line. Six designs.

Some families use a memorial card in place of a full program for a small or graveside service: it carries the essentials and costs a quarter of a sheet per guest.

How the card sheets work

Each file is one US Letter page holding four or eight identical cards separated by faint dashed lines. Print on cardstock, then cut along the lines with a paper trimmer or a ruler and craft knife. The dashed lines sit on the cut, so no line is left on the finished card.

In the fillable PDF the cards are linked: type the name on the first card and the other cards on the sheet fill in to match. In Word and Google Docs each card is its own table cell, so finish one and copy its contents into the others.

Cardstock of 65 to 80 lb runs through most home printers. For heavier stock or lamination, take the PDF to a copy shop.

Questions families ask

Do the cards match the funeral programs?
Yes. Every card design shares its artwork, colours and sample wording with the funeral program of the same name, so a Roses program, Roses memorial cards and Roses thank-you cards look like one set.
What is the difference between a memorial card and a prayer card?
Size and content. A memorial card is larger, printed on one side, and centres on the photo and dates. A prayer card is wallet-sized and two-sided, with a prayer or verse on the back. Catholic families usually mean the small two-sided card whichever word they use.
Can I change how many cards are on a sheet?
The layouts are fixed at four or eight because those divide a Letter sheet evenly. To print fewer, delete the contents of the cards you do not need; the page still prints and cuts the same way.
