First weeks of term

Back to school sudoku for the first-day settle-in, early finishers and sub plans

The first morning of term has forty minutes of paperwork where the class needs something quiet that requires no teaching. Chalkboard at Easy, printed once per desk with the answer key in the teacher's folder, is that something. It comes back out for early finishers all September and goes into the sub-plan binder in October.

Composition is the copier sheet: black and white by design, so a class set through the office machine costs nothing in colour toner and still looks intentional. School Supplies is the bright one for the bulletin board or the first-week homework folder. Grade level maps to tier: Beginner and Easy through third grade, Medium for fourth and fifth, Hard for middle school. The kids sudoku pages cover 4×4 and 6×6 for younger rooms.

Which difficulty fits which grade?
Beginner for K–1, Easy for grades 2–3, Medium for 4–5, Hard for middle school and up. Those tiers are graded by technique, so Easy never needs more than scanning and Medium adds exactly one move. Under third grade, the 4×4 and 6×6 kids grids are a better fit than a 9×9.
Can I copy a class set of the Composition sheet in black and white?
That is what it is for. The marbled cover is already black and white and the grid rules are full black, so it comes off a mono copier looking exactly like the preview. The other two styles copy acceptably but lose their colour.
How do I use back to school sudoku in a sub plan?
Print ten pages at six per page, Easy, with the answer key on its own sheet. That is sixty puzzles in a folder; a substitute hands out one page, keeps the key, and the room stays quiet for the length of a period. Nothing to teach.
Is there a teacher answer key that does not print with the puzzles?
Yes. Untick the answer-key box for the student copies, then run the generator once more with it ticked and print only the last pages. Every solution carries the same id as its puzzle, so the two PDFs match by number.
Can homeschoolers and tutoring centers use these?
Freely. There is no signup, no watermark and no attribution requirement, and the puzzles are single-solution verified so checking is a glance at the key. Print as many as the year needs.
