Sudoku for 4 Year Olds

Four-by-four, with lots of numbers already filled in, is the perfect first puzzle for a four-year-old. It uses only the numbers 1–4 and is short enough to finish in one sitting — which is exactly what makes a child want the next one.

Sudoku for a 4-year-old — FAQ.

Is sudoku too hard for a 4 year old?

Not the 4x4. It is really just 'which of 1–4 is missing from this little line?' — pure matching, no reading and no guessing. Sit alongside for the first one or two and they will take over.

My 4 year old can't read numbers yet — still OK?

Often yes: 4x4 is matching four symbols. If numerals are too abstract, wait a bit or treat the digits as shapes to match. A picture edition is on our list.
