Civil Engineer Resume Templates

Civil engineering hires on the stamp and the scale: are you licensed, what have you designed, and how big was it. These nine templates are built around exactly that — three layouts for the three main civil career paths, each in three colors. Structural (RISA/ETABS, IBC/ASCE 7, stamped sets), construction and project engineering (CMAR, Primavera, delivered budgets), and site and land development (Civil 3D, stormwater, permitting). Free in Word and Google Docs, one page, ATS-friendly.

Three paths, three colors each

Structural, construction, and site — the civil engineer's three resumes.

Structural leads with codes and analysis software; Construction/Project with delivered infrastructure and a project portfolio table; Site & Land Development with a credentials sidebar and a representative-project summary. Pick the path, then the color.

Structural — Blueprint

A structural engineer layout with a drafting title-block header — PE license, stamped-set and steel-tonnage stats, RISA/ETABS/SAP2000 analysis block, and IBC/ASCE 7/AISC/ACI codes.

Structural — Graphite

The structural design in graphite — the same title-block header and codes-and-analysis skills block for building and bridge structural engineers.

Structural — Teal

The structural engineer layout in teal — engineer-of-record framing with lateral analysis, connection design, and construction-phase RFIs.

Construction / Project — Navy

A civil project engineer and construction manager layout — infrastructure-delivered, engineers-led, and on-time stats, plus a project portfolio table with budgets and durations. PE · PMP.

Construction / Project — Slate

The construction-management design in slate — CMAR and design-build delivery, Primavera P6 and Procore, with a four-project portfolio strip.

Construction / Project — Forest

The project-engineer layout in forest — roadway, water, and site-development projects with scope, schedule, and safety record up front.

Site & Land Development — Teal

A site civil engineer layout with a full-height credentials sidebar (PE, CFM, Envision), Civil 3D/HydroCAD software block, and a representative-project site summary table.

Site & Land Development — Navy

The land-development design in navy — grading, stormwater, utilities, and permitting, with a site-summary table of storm sewer, detention, and roadway quantities.

Site & Land Development — Forest

The site-development layout in forest — a sidebar credentials format for civil engineers in commercial, multifamily, and municipal land development.
What civil hiring managers read

What goes on a civil engineer resume.

Whether the reader is a structural principal, a construction PM, or a land-development director, the first scan is the same — and these templates put it in the top third:

  • License status, by name. PE (state), EIT/FE, SE candidate, CFM, PMP, Envision — next to your name and in a credentials block. In civil, the stamp is the credential.
  • Codes and software, grouped. IBC · ASCE 7 · AISC 360 · ACI 318 on one line; RISA · ETABS · Civil 3D · HydroCAD on another. Reviewers look for their own tools.
  • Projects with scale and role. ’Engineer of record on 40+ stamped sets’ or ’$140M in roadway and water projects at 97% on-time’ — the number your path uses, and what you owned.
  • The construction phase. RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, inspections — proof you’ve carried a design into the field, not just to a plot.

Civil engineering student or intern? Use the engineering student layout — co-op experience and capstone projects written like work — and come back to the Structural design as your first-job template. The full engineering set covers mechanical, electrical, software, and DevOps.

Which civil path

Structural, construction, or site \u2014 which template is yours.

Structuralif you design buildings or bridges — gravity and lateral systems, connections, stamped sets. The layout’s stat row (stamped sets, steel tonnage, project types, state licenses) and its codes block are the vocabulary structural principals scan for.

Construction / Projectif you deliver infrastructure — roadway, water, utilities, site work — as a project engineer, field engineer, or construction manager. Its project portfolio table (budget · duration · role) is the page’s centerpiece.

Site & Land Development if you grade sites, size stormwater, design utilities and roads, and shepherd plans through permitting. The credentials sidebar carries PE, CFM, and Envision; the site-summary table shows quantities the way a plan set does.

Stamp it

Three steps.

  1. Pick your path — structural, construction/project, or site — and a color.
  2. Fill the credentials block first (license, software, codes), then experience with project scale and your role on each.
  3. Export a PDF; one page unless you’re a senior PE — then two is fine.
Civil questions

Civil engineer resume FAQ

What should a civil engineer resume include?
License status (PE with state, or EIT/FE), a grouped software and codes block, and experience bullets that carry project scale and your role — engineer of record, lead PE, field engineer. Then education with the degree spelled out (B.S., Civil Engineering). The three templates here are that structure tuned for structural, construction, and site work.
How do I write a civil engineering resume with no experience?
Lead with education and licensure progress — FE passed, EIT — then treat coursework, capstone, co-ops, and internships as projects: what you designed, in what software, to what standard. A summer with a DOT bridge team or a land-development firm is real experience; write it with the same specificity as a job. The engineering student layout on the college student page is built for this.
Should I put my PE license number on my resume?
List the license and state prominently ('PE · Colorado'); include the number only if the application asks — it's public record and adds nothing for a recruiter. For EIT, note the state and that the FE is passed.
What's the best resume format for a structural engineer versus a site engineer?
Structural readers scan for codes and analysis tools first, so that layout leads with a codes block and a stamped-work stat row. Site and land-development readers look for permitting and stormwater fluency, so that layout carries a credentials sidebar and a quantities table. Same page length, different first third — which is why they're separate templates.
Is a civil engineer resume one page or two?
One page for under ten years of experience. Senior PEs, principals, and construction managers with a long project list can use two — but the first page still has to stand alone, because that's all some reviewers read.
Are these civil engineer resume templates ATS-friendly and free?
Yes on both. Real text and standard headings mean tools and codes ('Civil 3D', 'ASCE 7') are picked up exactly by applicant tracking systems. Free in Word and Google Docs, no signup, no watermark.
