Engineering hiring is done by engineers, and they read resumes the way they read drawings: for the specifics. Electrical Engineer — Power — Amber

What engineers screen for

What goes on an engineering resume.

Across disciplines, engineering managers read the same four things first — and the templates here put them in the first third of the page:

  • Licensure and certification status. PE, EIT/FE, SE candidate, PMP, CSWP — by your name and in a credentials block. Unlicensed? Say EIT or ’FE passed’; it matters.
  • The stack, grouped. CAD, analysis, and methods on separate lines (SolidWorks · ANSYS · GD&T), not one long list. Reviewers scan for their own tools.
  • Projects with scale. ’Designed the structural system for a 180,000 sq ft campus’ beats ’structural design.’ Budgets, tonnage, throughput, uptime — the number your discipline uses.
  • Codes and standards. ASCE 7, NEC, ISO 13485, ASHRAE 90.1 — naming the standard you design to is proof of competence in one line.

Chemical, industrial, and computer engineering candidates: the mechanical manufacturing and electrical hardware layouts are the closest fits and are commonly used for those roles — swap the tools block for your own.

Which engineering resume template should I use?
Start from your discipline's page — civil, mechanical, electrical, software, or DevOps — then pick the specialty layout: a structural engineer and a site engineer lead with different things, and so do a design engineer and a manufacturing engineer. If your discipline isn't listed, the closest layout by workflow (hardware for computer engineering, manufacturing for industrial) is the standard substitute.
What is the best resume format for engineers?
Reverse-chronological with a credentials block near the top (license, software, codes) and project bullets that carry scale. Single-column or a narrow credentials sidebar — engineering hiring is often ATS-first, and the designs here parse cleanly. One page for under ten years; two is acceptable for senior PEs and managers.
How do I write an entry-level engineering resume with no experience?
Lead with education and licensure progress (FE passed / EIT), then projects — capstone, co-op, Formula SAE, research — written like work: what you designed, in which tool, to what result. The college student and entry-level sets are built for exactly this, and every discipline page has a design flagged as the new-grad fit.
Should I list my PE or EIT on my resume?
Yes, prominently — by your name ('Jane Doe, PE') and in the credentials block with the state. EIT/FE status matters too; it tells a reviewer you're on the licensure track. Include the license number only if the posting asks.
Are these engineering resume templates ATS-friendly?
