Registering an ATV or four-wheeler.

Whether you call it an ATV, a four-wheeler, or a quad, most states require it to be registered as an off-highway vehicle (OHV), and the bill of sale is the document you bring to the DMV or wildlife agency to do it. Record the VIN or frame serial number exactly as it’s stamped — many ATVs don’t carry a 17-character VIN, so copy whatever is on the frame rather than forcing it to fit.

ATVs track use by an hour meter, not an odometer, so note the hours instead of miles. If a helmet, winch, or trailer is part of the deal, list it in the additional-terms box.
What is an ATV bill of sale?

A paper record of the transfer.

An ATV bill of sale documents the date, price, and condition of the sale and identifies the machine by VIN or serial number. Both parties sign, and each keeps a copy for the OHV registration.

Not legal advice. Off-highway registration and titling rules vary by state — confirm your local requirements before completing the transfer.
