The bill of sale is one of three documents.

A horse changes hands with more paperwork than a truck. The bill of sale records the deal itself; the breed registry (AQHA, Jockey Club, APHA) has its own separate transfer report that moves the papers to the new owner; and most barns, shows, and state lines require a current negative Coggins (EIA) test. Note the Coggins test date and accession number in the additional-terms box, along with anything that rides along — tack, blankets, or a trailer.

Photos matter here more than on any vehicle: two clear conformation shots taken the day of sale document the horse’s condition and identity (markings, brands, scars) exactly as the buyer saw it. Whether the sale is “sound” or strictly AS-IS, and any pre-purchase exam findings, belong in additional terms too.
What is a horse bill of sale?

A paper record of the transfer.

A horse bill of sale documents the date, price, and identity of the horse — registered name, breed, sex, color, and markings — with signatures from buyer and seller. Each keeps a copy; the registry transfer is filed separately.

Not legal advice. A few states expect a written bill of sale for equine transactions, and health-certificate rules apply when crossing state lines — confirm your local requirements before completing the sale.
