Snowmobile Bill of Sale Form

Sleds sell in September and prove themselves in January. Put the VIN, engine, and miles on paper — with photos from the day of sale — so both sides remember the deal the same way.

A snowmobile bill of sale captures a sled sale in writing: VIN or serial, engine size, miles or hours, price, and both signatures. Snow-belt states expect it at DNR or DMV registration, and it documents condition for machines sold in the off-season.

Snow-belt rules

Sleds register through the state — usually the DNR.

In the snow-belt states where most sleds change hands — Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York, Maine — snowmobiles are registered through the state DNR or DMV, and the buyer presents the bill of sale to transfer the registration. Copy the VIN from the tunnel decal or frame stamping, and record miles (or hours on newer gauges).

Most sled sales happen in the off-season, when the machine has been sitting — photos taken the day of sale document the condition the buyer actually saw, covers, cracks, and all. A trailer or spare track included in the deal belongs in the additional-terms box.
Sled-sale checklist

Run through this before the sled leaves.

  • Copy the VIN from the tunnel decal or frame stamping.
  • Record miles or hours — whichever the gauge shows.
  • The buyer transfers registration through the state DNR or DMV in most snow-belt states; hand over your registration card with the bill of sale.
  • Trailer, cover, and spare belt included? Additional-terms box.
  • An off-season sale means no test ride in snow — date-stamped photos carry the condition story.

Not legal advice. snowmobile registration runs through a different agency in nearly every state.
