A UTV bill of sale puts a side-by-side sale in writing — VIN or serial, engine size, hours, price, and signatures. It anchors OHV registration where states require it and documents the AS-IS terms for machines sold hard-used.

Side-by-sides

RZR, Ranger, Maverick — the paperwork is the same.

Side-by-sides register as off-highway vehicles in most states, same as ATVs — the buyer takes this bill of sale to the DMV or wildlife agency for the OHV sticker. Copy the VIN from the frame plate, note the hour-meter reading, and record the seat count and any roll-cage or belt modifications in the additional-terms box, along with whatever rides along: doors, windshield, winch, light bar, or a trailer with its own VIN.

Selling a quad instead of a side-by-side? The ATV bill of sale is the same form tuned for straddle-seat machines.
Trail-ready checklist

Check these before the side-by-side sells.

  • Copy the VIN from the frame plate, not the listing.
  • Record the hour meter — and engine cc, which sets OHV class in several states.
  • Inventory the accessories in the price: doors, windshield, roof, winch, light bar, spare wheels.
  • Note aftermarket seat, belt, or cage modifications — they matter for resale and for safety inspections.
  • The buyer handles OHV registration; hand your registration card over with the signed form.

Not legal advice. a few states title UTVs while most only register them.

The UTV belt

Texas buys more side-by-sides than anywhere.

Ask the autocomplete: “UTV bill of sale Texas” is the top state pairing in the country, because ranch country runs on side-by-sides. Texas titles off-highway vehicles (no road registration — they’re not street machines), and riding public land takes a TPWD OHV decal, so a Texas buyer leaves the deal with your bill of sale, the title work for the county tax office, and the decal on their list. Details on the state’s process live on our Texas bill of sale page.

Wherever the machine sells, the constants hold: VIN or serial exactly as stamped, hours off the meter, and every accessory — doors, winch, light bar — listed in the additional terms.
